It is also about continuously refining our manufacturing processes
while preserving the clinical benefits surgeons and patients rely on.

Microthane®* versus traditional implants

The Microthane®* surface consists in a biocompatible polyurethane biomaterial. Its unique clinical characteristics result from the way surrounding tissue integrates with its three-dimensional surface architecture.

The collagen composition and microscopic structure of capsules formed around the Microthane®* surfaces differ from those observed around smooth and textured silicone surfaces.1  The Microthane®* polyurethane foam acts as a 3D scaffold, allowing tissue ingrowth and creating a stable tissue-implant interface.

Following implantation, vascularised connective tissue progressively grows into the three-dimensional polyurethane matrix, promoting tissue adherence and contributing to implant stability.2

Proven Safety Profile3-6

  • Greater tissue adherence to reduce implant rotation and malposition
  • Very low risk of Capsular Contracture
  • Radiation therapy patients have shown a decreased rate of Capsular Contracture*
  • Long-term Stability
  • High level of Predictability

Microthane® implants are manufactured according to the process described under European patent application EP26184379.1 of 10 June 2026, while maintaining the proven technology.

Dry-heat sterilisation without ethylene oxide

A validated dry-heat process is used for the sterilisation of these implants without the use of ethylene oxide (EtO).

The absence of EtO reduces gas emissions and associated handling risks.18 This supports a safer working environment for personnel involved in sterilisation and device handling.
Dry-heat sterilisation is an important element of POLYTECH‘s environmental and occupational health strategy and aligns with the company‘s commitment to robust manufacturing and quality systems.

Low observed incidence of BIA-ALCL

Clinical and post-market surveillance data indicate a low incidence of breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL) in patients with Microthane® implants.16

Global registry data suggest an estimated incidence within the low-incidence range reported for microtextured implants.17

B-Lite® Microthane®* - An exceptional combination

B-Lite® lightweight implants covered with Microthane®* are designed to be stable and
predictable. They weigh up to 30% less than traditional silicone implants while maintaining an equivalent size, form, and function. Lightweight implants cause less stress to the breast tissue and support tissue stability.9

Strong tissue adherence and reduced tissue stress help improve implant stability and
contribute to predictable long-term surgical outcomes. Surgeons worldwide report high
confidence in the technique and high patient satisfaction.

Microthane® - Proven clinical performance
in breast reconstruction

  • Clinical studies have demonstrated low rates of capsular contracture and
reoperation with Microthane® implants in breast reconstruction.10
  • Reducing severe capsular contracture (Baker III/IV) may help reduce the
need for reoperation, supporting patient outcomes and healthcare resource
    utilization.11,12
