Myth 1: Breast implants look fake
Nothing further from the truth! With the right surgeon and the right breast implant for your body type, your breast augmentation will not look fake, but as natural as you want it to look.
To achieve the results you want, it is crucial to research options and discuss expectations with your surgeon – until you are confident with the process and what you can expect from your breast augmentation.
Each woman is unique, with her own personal concept of beauty. Whether you are after a natural look or if you desire to achieve that “augmented” look, make sure to discuss your options and preferences with your surgeon.
Breast augmentation continues to be the world’s most popular cosmetic procedure*. Despite its popularity, several myths continue to surround this common procedure.
We gathered some of the myths to help you understand what breast augmentation can and cannot do for you.
Myth 2: Breast implant replacement every 10 years
Though not intended for permanent use, breast implants do not come with an expiration date. So breast implant replacement after a certain period of time is a myth.
The general guideline is that you should not replace implants unless you have a complication, or if you wish to replace them for aesthetic reasons (you might want to change the size or shape of your breast implant).
To help you feel safe, we provide patients with our warranty program “Implants of Excellence”, which offers patients a lifetime replacement-implant policy for their implants in case of:
- For all types of POLYTECH Health & Aesthetics breast implants: lifetime free replacement implant/s in case of implantshell rupture.
- For Microthane® breast implants: up to 10 years postop free replacement implant/s in case of capsular contracture, dislocation, or rotation.
Please note that as of March 1, 2019, the terms of Implants of Excellence have changed. For more details click here >>
Myth 3: Breastfeeding with implants is impossible
If you could breastfeed before your procedure, you will most likely be able to breastfeed with implants. It is crucial that you openly discuss your intention to breastfeed in the future with your surgeon, your surgeon will recommend the appropriate surgical approach for you.
Myth 4: Cup sizes are the accurate way to measure breast implant sizes
This is also a widespread myth. Not all bras fit the same way. In fact, they can be extremely variable from brand to brand. That is the reason why breast implant manufacturers work with Volume (POLYTECH with cc) instead of cup sizes.
Furthermore, to achieve a certain size, your surgeon must determine what amount of tissue is there before surgery and then add the size of the implant, so your final size won’t be determined only by the size of the breast implant, but also by your current breast size. Always consult your surgeon and make sure you are confident with the expects result of your breast surgery.
We understand that it might seem more straightforward to think about cup sizes than CCs, but you will be happy to work with a more accurate measure once you have your results.
Myth 5: Silicone is not safe
This is a big myth, and in fact, you are most likely already using silicone every day without knowing it!
Silicone is used in various medical devices such as artificial heart valves, joint replacements or medical tubing. You will also see silicone in baby pacifiers, baby bottle nipples, kitchen gear, and skin care items such as creams and makeup.
Specifically speaking about breast implants, silicone implants have been in use since the sixties, and technology has only improved since then. Even in the US market, the FDA deemed silicone implants as safe, reapproving use of them in 2006.
